Take Part in National War on Poverty Day through The Great American Milk Drive

National War on Poverty Day

On this day in 1964, United States President Lyndon B. Johnson introduced legislation during his State of the Union Address that launched the War on Poverty. Part of this huge initiative includes relieving the symptoms of poverty. Every year on January 8th, Americans observe National War on Poverty Day and are encouraged to spread awareness about the problem of poverty in this country. Even though the United States is generally considered a prosperous country, it is still home to many who go hungry, are homeless or don’t have the means to support themselves and their families.  For this reason, National War on Poverty Day is observed to inspire American’s to help their neighbors in need.

How can you help?

While there are many ways you can help, there is one that is especially near and dear to our heart…The Great American Milk Drive. We’ve partnered with Feeding America to create the first-ever national program to help deliver highly desired and nutrient-rich gallons of milk to hungry families who need it most. Log onto milklife.com/give to learn about the need for more nutritious foods in America’s food banks and how your small donation can make a big impact.

Think Beyond January 8th

Poverty isn’t an issue just one day a year, but every day. Helping your community to fight poverty in the long-term is an excellent way to honor the National War on Poverty.
