It’s Grow Time!
Plant a seed and watch it grow with this easy DIY seed starter!
Now is the time to create your seed starter garden so you can enjoy fresh veggies and herbs all summer long. This DIY project is the perfect way to reuse my empty Hiland Dairy Yogurt containers and is easy enough for the kids to get involved. I put mine together in a jiffy and so can you!
What you’ll need:
Hiland Dairy yogurt containers
Paint
Small nail
Hammer
Permanent marker
Toothpicks or small craft sticks
Glue
Planting soil
Pictures of the vegetables/herbs you are planting
Seeds
Instructions:
Rinse yogurt containers with warm soapy water. Allow to dry completely.
Tip: You can remove the printing from the containers using fingernail polish remover and cotton balls.
Paint each container. Allow to dry completely.
Tip: You can use either spray paint or craft paint.
Using a small nail and hammer, poke 3-4 holes in the bottom of each container to allow for water drainage.
Using a permanent marker, write the name of the vegetable or herb you are planting on the outside of each container.
Glue the vegetable and herb pictures to individual toothpicks or small craft sticks. Let dry completely.
Fill each container with soil.
Plant seeds according to package directions.
Stick the corresponding vegetable or herb picture into each pot.
Place the planted and marked containers on a south-facing windowsill to get your garden the proper amount of sunlight.
Tip: Place the containers on a platter to catch the water drainage and prevent damage to your windowsill.
Diva’s Tip
Be sure to read the directions on your seed packets so you provide the proper amounts of water and sun exposure.
