To kick off the first week of the Hiland Dairy Indulgent email series, we begin with breakfast. There are so many incredible opportunities to use dairy in breakfast recipes that are easy to make, with major payoff in both texture and taste.

I love to add heavy cream to my scrambled eggs, it creates the softest, fluffiest eggs. I get asked every time what makes my eggs taste so much better. (Shhh…it’s Hiland Dairy Heavy Whipping Cream.) Heavy cream is also a great swap for anything that requires milk. Pancakes, French toast, waffles? Add some heavy cream. Incredible flavor with an ultra-creamy texture.

We can’t forget cream cheese in a breakfast dish. If the only thing you ever do with cream cheese is spread it on a bagel, you are missing out. Cream cheese is mild, but rich, and can be used as a thickener or binder as well. Cream cheese is also the perfect addition to powdered sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla for a sweet, creamy drizzle to just about anything.

This week’s spotlight recipe is one that uses both Hiland Dairy Heavy Whipping Cream and Hiland Dairy Cream Cheese, plus a little Hiland Dairy Whole Milk. This Berries and Cream Stuffed French Toast recipe is loaded with a sweet cream cheese and berry filling then surrounded by a rich custard. But that’s not all, we finish it off with a sweet cream cheese drizzle over top of the entire thing. This is the perfect indulgent breakfast that will make your taste buds wake up happy.

Berries and Cream Stuffed French Toast With Cream Cheese Drizzle

Ingredients:

French Toast

  • 2 (8-10 inch) French bread/baguettes
  • 8 ounces Hiland Dairy Cream Cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup strawberries, sliced
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 cup raspberries
  • 1 cup Hiland Dairy Whole Milk
  • 8 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup Hiland Dairy Heavy Cream
  • 4 teaspoons cinnamon, divided
  • 1 cup brown sugar, divided

Cream Cheese Drizzle

  • 4 ounces Hiland Dairy Cream Cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons Hiland Dairy Heavy Cream

Directions:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9×13 pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Score the French bread/baguettes into 1-inch sections, being careful to not cut all the way through the bread. Place the bread in the baking dish.
  • In a medium bowl, mix the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Add all the berries and fold them into the cream cheese mixture.
  • Use a spoon or spatula to generously spread the cream cheese/berry mixture in between the sliced sections of the bread.
  • In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, 3 teaspoons cinnamon and 1/2 cup brown sugar until combined.
  • Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread and into the baking dish. Allow to sit for 30 minutes to allow the bread to soak up the egg mixture.
  • In a small mixing bowl, combine the remaining 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon together and sprinkle over the top of the bread and egg mixture.
  • Cover the baking dish with foil and place in the oven to bake for 15 minutes.
  • After 15 minutes, remove the foil and continue to bake for and additional 30 minutes.
  • While baking, make the cream cheese drizzle. In a small mixing bowl, beat together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla, and heavy cream until combined.
  • Remove the French Toast from the oven and let rest for 10 minutes to completely set.
  • Drizzle the cream cheese drizzle over the top and serve warm! Garnish with maple syrup, whipped cream, and more berries (optional).
