This plant primarily serves Iowa and Nebraska. The Omaha, Nebraska plant processes and produces between 2 to 2.5 million gallons of milk each month. School milk, sour cream, orange juice, dips, and sour cream are also made in Omaha. The milk comes from Nebraska dairy farmers within a 90-mile radius of the plant.
Hiland Dairy’s Omaha plant has a fascinating history. The dairy was founded in 1906 when a farmer named J.R. Roberts started home delivery of milk from his herd of 60 dairy cows. In 1911, his operation became an incorporated company, Roberts Dairy. In 1929, the current plant in Omaha began processing dairy foods, and in 2013, Hiland Dairy acquired Roberts Dairy.
