Unique Winter Wreath – Hiland Dairy

Unique Winter Wreath

A Very Merry and Bright … Idea!

Wreaths are holiday staples. Hang them on the front door or around the house. No matter where you display them, they are delightful decorative pieces that come in all shapes and sizes. What’s better? You can make them with a few crafting supplies and some imagination. I used repurposed Hiland Dairy Milk jugs, and the end result was adorably festive.

What You’ll Need:

Winter Wreath Supplies

  • Empty Hiland Dairy Milk jugs, gallon-sized
  • Scissors
  • Thick cardboard
  • Glue gun
  • Craft knife
  • Glitter spray paint, any color
  • Spray-on sealer, clear
  • Fairy lights, battery-operated
  • Tape
  • One-hole punch
  • String or twine

Instructions:

  • Rinse the milk jugs with warm, soapy water. Allow to dry completely.
  • Cut a large circle, approximately 14 inches in diameter, out of heavy cardboard.
  • Using a craft knife, cut out a 6-inch circle in the center.

Winter Wreath Step 1

  • Spray-paint the wreath-shaped cardboard with the glitter spray paint. Allow to dry completely.

Winter Wreath Step 2

  • Spray on layer or two of sealer. Allow to dry completely.
  • While the sealer dries, cut out several plastic leaf-shaped pieces (at least 1 inch long) from the milk jugs. Tip: Be sure to cut the leaves from the rounded sides of the jug to create curved leaves.

Winter Wreath Step 3

  • Glue the plastic leaves around the wreath cardboard, completely covering it.

Winter Wreath Step 4

  • Make a hole at the top of the wreath with the one-hole punch.

Winter Wreath Step 5

  • Thread the string or twine through the hole and tie in a knot.
  • Wind fairy lights throughout the plastic leaves and tape the battery pack to the back of the wreath.

Winter Wreath Step 6

  • Hang and enjoy!

Diva’s Tip

You can make this wreath as big or small as you want. You also can use any size Hiland Dairy Milk jugs, just remember to cut your plastic leaves from the rounded corners.
