Ever since Porter asked Smalls if he wanted a s’ more during the overnight campout in Sandlot, I’ve been hooked. S’mores are a quintessential good-time treat. Think about it: More often than not, when you’re eating s’ mores, you’re sitting around a campfire with good company at the end of a great day. Perhaps that’s why I love them so much – because they bring back so many fun memories.
This recipe is the perfect way to get your s’ mores fix without the campfire! It has been my absolute favorite since I first made them back when we lived in Dallas. Now, the kids and I have so much fun making them together. Their favorite part is to “test” all of the s’ mores ingredients (chocolate bars, graham crackers, and mini marshmallows) before we put them into the dough. I always oblige and standby to receive the green light to proceed. Sometimes I’ll “test” a few myself just to be EXTRA sure.
My secret weapon anytime I’m baking: Hiland butter. My grandma uses it, my Mama uses it, and now it’s become an ingredient I cannot bake without. I swear it just makes everything taste better, and I love the added nutrients too! It totally balances out the whole, you know, cookie thing.
Baking together always brings us so much joy, but it’s also been a great outlet for creativity and relaxation while we’re all at home. I think this time has really shown us what is most important, and to me, that is slowing down and making sweet memories together with my little family.
PS. Don’t miss out on Hiland Dairy’s amazing giveaway! It’s perfect for anyone who is also keeping themselves and their family busy in the kitchen.
