Raising Awareness and Funds for Those Impacted by Breast Cancer

Supporting Families Affected by Breast Cancer

For the sixth consecutive year, Hiland Dairy helped raise awareness and funds to support families impacted by breast cancer. Through our “Hiland for Pink” campaign, we donated five cents for each YoPhoria Smoothie, Lactose Free Milk and Iced Coffee, and 20 cents for every four-quart pail of Hiland Ice Cream sold, to the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks (BCFO) from July 1 through Sept. 30, 2016. Additionally, we gave $1 to the organization for every new Facebook fan on our page for the duration of the promotion.

Why We Do It

“We all have friends or family members who have been affected by breast cancer,” said Gary Aggus, president/general manager of Hiland Dairy. “We continue our support of this great organization by raising awareness and funds to help alleviate the immense physical, emotional and financial strain on not only the victims, but also their friends and family. We hope our support helps to reduce those burdens on those affected, while providing assistance, awareness and education for early detection and prevention.”

The BCFO provides real and practical help to individuals in treatment for breast cancer, paying rent/mortgage, utilities and auto payments so the patients can focus on treatment and healing instead of a financial shortfall. One of the BCFO’s most requested form of assistance is vehicle repairs so breast cancer patients can travel to and from medical treatments. Donations to the BCFO are also used to address the needs of children in the homes of breast cancer patients because creating a sense of normalcy in the family unit is important for the patient’s peace of mind. The BCFO helps with school clothing and supplies, orthodontic continuation, eyeglasses, and more. A BCFO mentoring program helps ensure that those newly diagnosed with the disease are able to seek comfort and friendship from someone who has survived the fight against breast cancer.

Adding It All Up

This is the sixth year that Hiland was able to donate the maximum donation of $25,000 to BCFO, adding to the $150,000 we have donated over the previous five years. The BCFO provides support and resources for individuals and families impacted by breast cancer. Along with community education, mentoring programs and support groups, the BCFO assists with free mammograms, and it is the only local organization providing nonmedical financial support for those facing hardship as a result of breast cancer.
