DIY Harvest Pumpkin Button Pumpkin for Fall

This Pumpkin Is Cute as a Button!

Autumn kicks off many annual traditions for my family. We pick apples, make pies and visit at least one local pumpkin patch to hunt for the ideal pumpkin. My kids can’t wait to carve their own jack-o’-lanterns for Halloween, but why stop there? Get in on the fun by creating a fall-themed pumpkin using a repurposed Hiland Dairy milk jug and a few crafting supplies.

Harvest Button Pumpkin

What You’ll Need:

Empty Hiland Dairy Milk jug, gallon-sized
Orange spray paint
Burlap wire ribbon
2 (or more) rolls of fall-themed wire ribbon
4 (or more) packs of fall-colored buttons
Scissors
Glue gun
Glue sticks

Instructions:

Rinse the milk jug with warm, soapy water. Allow to dry completely.
Spray-paint the entire jug, including the lid. Allow to dry completely.

Glue the burlap ribbon around the top of the jug.

Move the ribbon up with every turn, gluing it in place.

Slightly bend the ribbon roll to one side to create the stem.
Make a bow using additional ribbon.

Tie the bow to the top and side of the stem using a pipe cleaner, or glue it using the glue gun.
Lay the milk jug on its side and spell out a word with the buttons.
Glue buttons in place. Tip: If you use smaller buttons you can spell longer words like autumn, family, harvest, etc.

You can also use a half-gallon or pint-sized Hiland Dairy Milk jugs for this crafting project.
