There’s no magic to keeping your Hiland Dairy products fresh, but there may be a few things you could be doing differently. So here are some helpful hints to keep your dairy products fresher and tastier…
You should keep your Hiland milk and other dairy products in their original cartons. They were designed to keep air and light out…and those are the two biggest threats to taste!
Dairy products should be kept between 35 degrees and 40 degrees, so keep a cooler in your car to hold refrigerated items on the way home from the store. And, check the temp on your fridge…your Hiland milk and all of your refrigerated foods will thank you.
Most hard cheeses are best kept in their original package or tightly wrapped in plastic wrap. If you have some grated Hiland cheese, keep it in its original package and you can count on it lasting between 6-12 months in the fridge.
Long-term storage of Hiland ice cream usually isn’t a problem since we tend to eat it soon after we get it home. But, let’s just say that you might have ice cream that you want to keep for more than a couple weeks. Put an extra piece of plastic wrap on the surface of the ice cream in the container to prevent ice crystals from forming. This will maintain the fresh flavor of the ice cream.
