  • Place the cream cheese and smoked salmon on the board. Depending on the type of board you use, consider arranging the smoked salmon on a piece of parchment paper.
  • Add the sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, onion and microgreens to the board.
  • Transfer the cornichons and everything bagel seasoning to small dishes and place on the board.
  • Use the hard-boiled eggs to fill in any gaps on the board.
  • Arrange the bagels around the board or place in a separate container.

The best part about this recipe? You don’t even need to turn on the oven!

Your task is simply to source the best spreads (hello, of course it’s Hiland cream cheese), the freshest veggies and a few little extras to level up your brunch game.

Ingredient Notes

Bagels: Look for freshly baked bagels from your local bakery or supermarket. Varieties like plain, everything, asiago and sesame all work well.

Cream Cheese: I always opt for one plain cream cheese and one flavored cream cheese. Onion and Chive and Garden Veggie are my go-to picks for these savory bagels.

Smoked Salmon: Make sure to buy a quality smoked salmon for that delicious melt-in-your-mouth texture.

Eggs: You can either make hard-boiled eggs or soft-boiled eggs. Or even consider making eggs to order so your guests can enjoy scrambled or over-easy eggs with their bagels.

Veggies: Fresh veggies add color and crunch! Good options include thinly sliced tomatoes, red onions, sliced cucumbers and microgreens or fresh dill.

Step by Step Instructions

Creating a visually attractive board is all about paying attention to colors, shapes and texture. Try to arrange the board so that items with the same color or shape aren’t clustered together, but rather space them out across the board.

Step 1: Arrange the cream cheese and salmon on the board. I recommend placing the smoked salmon on a piece of parchment paper.

Step 2: Rinse and cut the veggies. Arrange the cut veggies on the board.

Step 3: Place any garnishes on the board. I used a dish of everything bagel seasoning and a small bowl of cornichons.

Step 4: Peel and cut the eggs in half. Place them on the board to fill in any gaps.

Expert Tips and Tricks

  • The biggest rule when arranging a board like this is to start with the biggest items and move to the smallest items. The largest items, like the cream cheese and smoked salmon, will serve as visual anchors. And the smaller items can be used to fill in any gaps!
  • I used regular bagels, but mini bagels are also a great option. This will allow your guests to try more than one combination.
  • Don’t forget the plates, napkins and utensils! You’ll need spoons, spreading knifes and tongs.

Ingredients for a Bagel Board

A bagel board eliminates the need for any side dishes — the board is the entire brunch!

Make Ahead and Storage Instructions

I recommend arranging all of your ingredients on the board only an hour or two before serving. This will ensure that everything stays fresh and crisp!

That being said, there are still ways to prep. The veggies can be rinsed and cut ahead of time. And I definitely recommend making the eggs a day in advance to make putting the board together a breeze.

Serving Ideas

If you’d like to include something extra, having fresh fruit available is a great option and the perfect complement to the board.

For drinks, I recommend a variety of juices and, of course, coffee. Mimosas also make a great addition if this is a celebratory brunch!
